Transport

Kirkby is served by great links with the road network, train services to Liverpool and Manchester, bus routes to various destinations and a slowly improving cycle infrastructure

The development of a cycle network running though Kirkby is slowly progressing, but whilst the routes running through the town are largely complete, routes running around the town are limited and sometimes disjointed.

Kirkby and nearby areas are served by high frequency bus services along several routes to Liverpool, plus other services to Bootle, Halewood, Huyton, Old Swan, Ormskirk, Prescot and St. Helens, as well as school services to secondary schools in Maghull.

Rail services run from Kirkby train station to Liverpool Central and Manchester Victoria via Wigan Wallgate. A new additional train station is planned for Headbolt Lane.

Kirkby is well-connected with the road network, with the M57 immediately to the west, the M58 to the north, and the East Lancashire Road dual carriageway to the south. A series of non-residential main roads through Kirkby provide north-south and east-west transport.
