Election of the Liverpool City Region Mayor
The Liverpool City Region Mayor, currently Steve Rotheram, leads the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority (LCR-CA), which is a strategic authority with powers over transport, economic development and regeneration, which needs to work with the existing city and borough authorities:
- Liverpool City Council
- The Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley
- The Metropolitan Borough of Sefton
- The Metropolitan Borough of St. Helens
- The Metropolitan Borough of Wirral
- The Borough of Halton
Elections for the Liverpool City Region Mayor take place every 4 years, with the next election due to take place in 2028.
The last Liverpool City Region Mayoral election took place on 2nd May 2024 alongside Knowsley local council and Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner elections, with the incumbent Labour candidate Steve Rotheram being re-elected to the role.
The second LCR Mayoral election was originally planned to take place on 7th May 2020, however this was delayed until 6th May 2021 due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. The incumbent Labour candidate Steve Rotheram was re-elected to the role.
The first LCR Mayoral election was held on Thursday 4th May 2017, with the Labour MP Steve Rotheram being elected to the role.

Results for the 2024 LCR Mayoral election
The turnout for this election was 23.72% of the approximately 1,149,736 registered voters in the Liverpool City Region. Within just Knowsley, the turnout was 21.6% of 121,300 registered voters.
