Les Connor lives in the Whitefield ward of Kirkby, and is not known to have previously stood for election in Kirkby.
Les provided his statement on the evening of 18th April, shortly after we initially posted the updates.
I have lived in Kirkby my whole life. I have seen the our council strip our town bare. They have made cut after cut yet still increase the council tax as high as they possibly can. I have seen house prices and rent go through the roof, while wages remain low. Food bank usage is through the roof. What have our council done? Have they tried to feed the hungry? No they spent our money on a rusty tree with a ufo in it, an elephant taking a bath and chairs with wings. We need a council that will actually improve the lives of the people. This is why I am standing. I’m not after a career like most of them. I have a job I enjoy and will keep win or lose. I want to see positive changes in our town. I want to appose all cuts to service and reverse the cuts that have been made. To do this I will push the council to use its reserves to build council houses and reverse the privatisation of our services. We can do a better and cheaper job than a company only after profit. This will also bring rent prices down in Kirkby.
