Labour secures 3 local council seats, but another independent candidate beats another Deputy Leader of Knowsley Council in Whitefield ward for the second year in-a-row
On 5th May 2022 Kirkby went to the polls to vote in the local elections to elect borough councillors to Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council, with 1 out of 3 seats in each of the 4 Kirkby wards contested:
- The Labour candidate David Lonergan was re-elected in Cherryfield ward
- The Labour candidate Harry Bell was re-elected in Northwood ward
- The Labour candidate Tommy Rowe was re-elected in Shevington ward
- The independent candidate Steve Guy was newly elected in Whitefield ward, defeating the incumbent Labour candidate Louise Harbour, the second Deputy Leader of Knowsley Council to lose their seat in Whitefield in two years
