Labour secures the LCR Mayor, Police and Crime Commissioner, and 3 local council seats, but an independent candidate beats the Deputy Leader of Knowsley Council in Whitefield ward
On 6th May 2021 Kirkby went to the polls to vote in 3 different sets of elections:
- The Labour candidate Steve Rotheram has been re-elected as the Liverpool City Region Mayor
- The Labour candidate Emily Spurrell has been elected as the Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner
- In the local elections to elect borough councillors to Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council, 1 out of 3 seats in each of the 4 Kirkby wards were contested:
- The Labour candidate Jackie Harris was re-elected in Cherryfield ward
- The Labour candidate Eddie Connor was re-elected in Northwood ward
- The Labour candidate Aimee Wright was elected for the first time in Shevington ward, taking over from the previous Labour councillor Linda Mooney
- The independent candidate Steve Smith was elected for the first time in Whitefield ward, beating the incumbent Labour councillor and Deputy Leader of Knowsley Council, Sean Donnelly
The election of Steve Smith is the first time Kirkby has been represented by a non-Labour candidate since the middle of the 1980s.
